DJJD graveside memorial service

I took these photos on Wednesday at the DJJD graveside memorial service honoring Joseph Lee Heywood and Nicolaus Gustafson. Brad Ness, David Anderson, Lynn Wilmot, Orrin DeLong, and a Gustafson descendant gave the eulogies. See the photo album or this slideshow.

    Griff–I really love the captions, but I need to correct one. Del Gustavson is the grand nephew of Nicholas–alas, poor Nicholas died without a wife, without family by his bedside, nor did the family claim his body and bury him in the family plot–they left him in an unmarked grave. It is only late years that the grave was marked. There are some interesting mysteries surrounding the graves of the robbers (Bill Stiles and Clel Miller) and Nicholas Gustavson.

    Thanks, Jane. Fixed!

    I spelled Gustafson with an ‘f’ instead of a ‘v’ since the grave stone spells it that way. Or did it change over the years?

    Sorry Griff–this is really confusing and I made a mistake on Del–he spells it with an “f”. The old way of spelling–when Nick died–was with a “v”, but the current Gustafson family uses an “f”. Also, it may be that Nick is a great-great uncle or great great grand uncle? -Del’s grampa Ernst was Nick’s nephew, so I think I left off a grand or two, and I can’t quite get the relation right.
