Warren Ringlien’s memorial bench

IWarren Ringlien  was playing paddleball on the tennis court/practice wall at the Northfield High School yesterday when two kids rode up on their bikes. One said “That’s our grandpa’s bench!” and were quite excited when I told them that I knew their grandpa. The plaque says “In memoriam, Warren Ringlien, 1932-2007, Friend of Tennis.”

The Northfield Tennis Association dedicated the bench on July 31, 2008.  Photos of the ceremony are posted on this page but they’re in a format that’s not easy to view so I’ve taken the liberty to add them here.

I blogged about Warren when he died in Nov. 2007. See his obit on Northfield.org.

Hey, this is so cool. Warren used to come to ALL of the NDDC Forums. What a great guy, he was so engaged in so many areas of our community.

I remember when I first chatted with him he told me that he built instruments. I asked him, “Guitars, basses, mandolins, lutes?”

My misunderstanding seemed to amuse him as he patiently gave me a detailed explanation regarding his SCIENTIFIC instruments.
