Charter Cable yanks two Basic channels. Can anything be done?

charterLogo I got this email from Nancy Soth this week about Charter Cable:

Charter, to non-digitalized, non-bundled customers has taken off two important channels, while retaining most "trash television". These channels are: (continued)

  • C-Span II, which on weekends can keep us well informed about non-fiction books, book festivals, etc. It’s invaluable.
  • The next is TMC, Turner Movie Classics, which is really important to movie lovers.

Charter always has us in their grip but they’re not being kind to those of us who try to save money on media. Apparently with enough feedback, the city might be able to act in our behalf.

Nancy says to contact her and her husband Lauren Soth via email (soth @ rconnect dot com) that she "might use their names when talking to Charter or the city."

I subscribed to basic cable when I couldn’t get the box to work (my antenna being in the attic, wasn’t adequate). I’m reconciled to the paltry channel offerings because I’m not much of a TV consumer and PBS reception improved and CSPAN is available.

It seems to me that there ought to be a rule permitting subscribers to select channels, and pay on a fee per channel basis.

We’ve gone digital antennae and streaming everything over our computer to the TV set. No more cable bills and I love it!

Thank you for the information, Curt. That might leave me doing only one thing at once, but I’ll keep looking to see what’s on. Thanks for responding, Nancy Soth

Check out Jaguar communication if you are in Dundas. They bring fiber optic TV, Internet, and phone right to your house. I will go without a TV if Charter was the only choice, they have the worst customer service on the planet. They did me wrong and I am going to hold a grudge for a long long time.

Well here we are a few years later and nothing has changed except more channels removed and higher bills… If you have another choice I would strongly advise against CHARTER. I called because my on-demand was not working but their concern was I was getting too many channels. Service man came out box still does not work but I have less channels.
