Andrea and Theo crank it up for Way Park on Saturday

Andrea Een Andrea Een was in promo mode yesterday at GBM, letting everyone know about the Way Park benefit concert on Saturday at First United Church of Christ. She and Theo Wee will be performing the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The event also is a tribute to Wee who’s now in her 40th year as organist at First UCC.

See Jane McWilliams’ blog post on Northfield.org for all the details.

Update 10/20: Here are four photos from the event:

Thanks, Griff, for the pictures! The joy you see on our faces reflects the tremendous pleasure of playing Bach in a beautiful church (UCC) for a great audience of about 150. Over $1,100.00 was raised by generous patrons of the arts for the first phase of Spencer Jones’ landscape design.

Judy Swanson and Friends of Way Park created a lovely reception where people lingered to look at the design and “kibbutz” about community and catch up on each others’ lives.

This was the kick-off event for our First UCC celebration on November 8th of Theo Wee’s FIRST 40 years as Director of Music and Organist. Theo continues to play the organ and Chris Brunelle is the Director of Music now. Come join our congregation at 10am on Sunday, Nov. 8 for a world premiere composed for Theo and the choir by Jannika Vandervelde from the Twin Cities.

Thanks to Friends of Way Park, First UCC and especially Judy Swanson for sponsoring this Bach concert. We had folks from age 3 to 88 -- a wonderful cross-section of Northfielders supporting this event!

It was indeed a great event — the sort of thing that makes Northfield life what it is. My favorites were the two long pieces after the intermission, Andrea on unaccompanied viola and then Theo on that terrific 1876 organ in the Toccata and Fugue.

All of us once and future Way Park rats thank you.
