    Hi Griff,

I continue to feel that the site needs to be more, rather than less, open. Any chance of opening up the sidebar to anyone? That would make me much more inclined to pay for membership. I do favor having ads on the mobile version for nonmembers which go away for members (I have yet to see any ads on my non-member version of the mobile site).

    Thanks,
    Felicity

I am proud to be only the SECOND woman to subscribe to this blog/become a member. As a very late adopter of all things technological, I am amazed to be on the ground floor of this launch. okay, folks, I am waiting for some exciting repartee to make me feel that my precious three dollars were a worthwhile investment.

I will start things out by saying I loved Winter Walk and especially the live music in so many venues! The jazz trio cooked at Anna’s Closet and the caroling duo at the Arts Guild was really enthusiastic with a tough clientele who didn’t know the words to anything but the FIRST verses!

Felicity, I’ll check out the feasibility of displaying ads to non-members on the mobile version.

As for opening up the sidebar to anyone, sure there’s a chance! But I’m already spending extra time helping new members with their Gravatars, coaching them on their blog post topic, helping them embed images and links in the post, etc. I’d rather not do this extra hand-holding for free.

There are plenty of ways for people to have their voices heard for free in the local blogosphere already. Anyone can still comment for free here. And anyone can post to the Northfield.org blog for free, or create their own blog via a free service like WordPress or Blogger and have Northfield.org aggregate it for free, and maybe even get to where LG aggregates it for free like we do on our sidebar for Northfield Nonmotorized and others.

So I think it’s reasonable to ask for people to pay the equivalent of a two cups of coffee per month (and a little more if they want to promote something) to be able to blog on our sidebar.

If you disagree and don’t want to become a member, that’s fine. I’ll eventually get over it emotionally. 😉 But I sure hope you’ll still chime in with your always valuable comments!

Andrea, I’m pleased to have you as a ‘ground floor’ member of LG, too. You’re still the only person I know in Northfield with a Wikipedia entry!

As for exciting repartee, if you don’t see anything to your liking in the existing discussion threads, you can now initiate a blog post of your own. Login to WordPress (lower right sidebar) and then go to New Post.

Hey Grief. How much would it cost me to keep a specific person off LG? I can’t wade through al this promo BS but I’m really intrigued with this thought.

But first, give me a price just for Kissi and my to have the right to spin freely.

Then (I’m serious) what’s it gonna cost to keep someone off the Groan for … let’s say a month. Or a year? Yeah, a whole cotton pickin’ year!

Would different personalities have different price tags?

Lets say a Triumvirate person. A femme for example. How much to shut down the Trace? How about Juan George (say hore ay) ? Bruce — I want’a stifle the ever insightful articulate Bruce M. Too big a vocabulary. He intimidates me.

Conversely, Is there some way I can sponsor a writer? I have a specific young woman in mind.. recent transplant to N’Fld … writes really well has her own blog and is totally un-enamored (is that a word? )with the people and the place. She’s also on a tight budget, so would need to be compensated for her effort. I’ve also been reading this Dr Stockman (dude or dudette) over on the Fish Wrap Times’ blog site. He/She has a way with words. Needs an outlet.

How ’bout it big G … Can we deal?

Victor, if you want to shut me up, just give me some hush money directly. It’s so much more efficient to cut out the middleman.

Hey Griff… you have a new name over on the nfnews site… your, and my, ever ‘mouthy’ buddy, “fairandbalanced”, refers to LG as “Locally Bought and Paid For”…

Spacy … no I was just trying to get a range — in pricing. From the perfect … to the very imperfect. Also wonder if there’s a gender price break. Frankly I just realized there’s not too many of the fairer sex who write wrong. Most egregious remarks come from a smattering of males.

Groan’s goal is to be funded so I have to pay LG (little griff) — not you. He hasn’t responded with the executive summary of deals, so I guess i’ll have to wade through the cookies and the banners and the getoric to see what a reasonable support donation might be. Do you and the third leg get a piece of the action … or is the plan, Griff pockets it all?

Oops! Better be careful. Just glanced at the NoNews website to see what Kiffi’s wailing on them about now. I see it’s Fairly Unbalanced … tagging the LG as Locally Bought and Paid, etc. Next, It’ll be claiming I’m the buyer.

    Hmm, there’s a thought.

What’s the whole shebang worth … in Chamber Dollars?

If I’m becoming a major stockholder, I’ll have to get a pic. The silhouette wasn’t too bad but this off-kilter G is really disturbing. I’ll need somethin stately … me, at the Open Mic. I have a greatshot of me standing on a camera crane in Chicago next to the Art Institute’s lions. That’d work.

BTW – KWS told me not to include her in any remarks I make about keeping writers off LG. She’s a scrapper! Wonder what Griff might charge me to purchase her airtime rights?

Rob – You’ve got it! I happen to have a mug with my driver’s license photo processed on it. It’s yours!

Or, was it a Kiffi summa crony mug you wanted?

  12. OK (finally getting back to this), the handholding argument is certainly reasonable. Goodness knows you’ve done enough of that for me over the years!
