Hodge-Podge que’ closes

Hodge-Podge que’ Hodge-Podge que’, the antiques and collectibles store at the corner of 5th and Division, closed on Monday. Owner Jerry Nord told me everything’s packed up and ready to be taken to an auction which will be held at the end of the month.

I’ll get some details later today when I get a haircut from Jerry at Fashionette Concepts.

The closing marks the end of a 17-year run for the antique store, which was located at the corner of Division Street and Fifth Street. Nord refused to comment on why the store is closing.

Jerry told me that his reasons for closing included both the effects of the recession in the past year, plus his belief that personal discretionary spending needed to sustain an antique store like his was unlikely to bounce back in big way anytime soon.

He plans to keep cutting hair two-days a week, do more volunteer work at the Northfield Arts Guild, and continue his flower gardening.

I found this photo I took of Jerry Nord tending the planters on 5th St and Division, circa Aug. 2003.
