It was a gorgeous day yesterday, and when I rode past the sculpture I thought of Tim's story about the little boy (comment #1). We are very excited. In addition to Mac--Ray Jacobson, Sharol Nau, Juan Jose Palacios, and Ed White are also participating in the "Five Sculpture" project. They will each create a work that will measure eight feet tall. The set of sculptures will be unveiled in early fall of 2010. Then, each sculpture will be placed on the pedestal for roughly ten weeks at a time--for a total period of one year. Mac's piece on the pedestal now, "Between Earth and Sky", is destined for the bike trailhead in Dundas, in fact the council in Dundas approved that some time ago. There is still a bit of fund-raising to complete this process--the sculpture in front of Lampe represents only the top section of the completed Dundas installation. It has been great having the sculpture outside our office building. So many people have commented favorably, and what a great way to give much needed exposure to local artists. Keep em coming!!!

I think the “Between Earth and Sky” sculpture is planned to go in at the Mill Towns trailhead in Dundas, by the old Archibald Mill.

While I look forward to seeing the next sculptures, I hate to lose Mac’s “Between Earth and Sky”. One day I saw a little boy standing at the sculpture’s base. His cheeks were billowed out and he was blowing up at the sculpture’s turning turbines! In his mind, he was making them spin. That vision will stand in my mind for a long time.
