Since it was A) a warm morning (60F) and B) it’s Bike to Work Day, I rode my wife’s Giant Revive DX to my office at the GBM today. More than a few bikers joined me.

I’m looking for a cheap used men’s mountain bike, frame size 17 to 19 inches. Any name brand model that was NOT sold by a big box retailer.

Mike’s Bicycle Shop doesn’t normally have any used bikes and when they do, they go quickly.

FIT to be TRI’d does sell used bikes. They have about 5 in stock now, mainly kid sizes, and plan to keep regularly refurbishing their stock.

  9. For sale: Kona Lava Dome MTB ($300 OBO)

I bought my Kona Lava Dome mountain bike in 1995, but it hasn’t been ridden very hard – mostly on pavement and gravel trails (not rough mountain-biking terrain), and not at all in the past two years. The LD has been and woud be an excellent trail & gravel-road bike.

The bike is very nice, probably at “the low end of the high end” for bikes of that vintage. The frame is extremely light and fairly aggressive. I’m not sure of Kona’s original sizing, but the measured dimensions are a 22″ top tube, 15″ seat tube, 24.5″ down tube. It runs 26″ tires. The bike is too small for a 5’10” rider (i.e., me), but it would be ideal for someone between about 5’4″ and 5’8″. A front shock could be installed. Overall, the bike’s components (a mix of original parts and newer ones) are in good shape, though the bike should probably have a tune up before any serious riding.

I’m asking for $300, but I’d be willing to negotiate that price, especially if the bike goes to a good home.
