It may be a while before NWUG (Northfield WordPress Users Group) gets formed. So until that happens, feel free to use this blog entry for questions, sharing tips and info, and giving free help.

Think of this as a temporary, online NWUG.

There are a few business-folks in town, me included, who earn money by helping people with WordPress. So it would be unfair to expect me and my WordPress-savvy colleagues to donate lots of time helping people here. (However, we may occasionally do so out of the goodness of our hearts, just to show off how much we know, or as another way to indirectly promote our fee-based services.)

  1. Griff, I think this is a great idea. I don’t know how much time I’ll have to contribute. WordPress is a great reason for us users and developers to get together in town, discuss issues, etc.

  2. I’m interested in a Word Press users group also. My blog uses WordPress. I’m someone who is only somewhat technically savvy and haven’t made the time to learn more.

    I’m afraid I can’t be an organizer, either, but I’d like to learn from you folks who know more than I.

    I suppose such a group could be very informal at first, with an occasional meeting and a group contact list in someone’s email program. And if it seems to meet a need it could grow from there.

    I’ve been using Windows Live Writer to post to all my blogs and even create content for WordPress pages.

  4. I am also interested in participating! I have been asked by a local non-profit business to help with web-site updates/mangement on a volunteer basis. I would like to learn more about WordPress. Thanks.

  5. Like Patty, I volunteered to “administer” the League of Women Voters in Nfld’s new website. Probably unlike her, I would guess, I know pretty much nothing about blogging, web technology, any of the html-like languages, etc.

    Rather than a group that meets in real time, I would prefer a forum where I could submit questions like the following:
    Several members of the League have asked me to delete posts older than Nov. ’06. I told them that their wish was my command, but that I don’t think this is proper or wise procedure on a blog. Am I right?

  6. Catherine, in general, it’s best to keep all old blog posts. It helps with the search engine spiders and anyone who’s link to the permalink of those posts.

    Only if the content of the posts has become problematic does it make sense to delete them… and even then, it’s usually best to append a correction.
