Straw poll: Do you support or oppose the proposed ethanol plant?

We’ve had several blog entries and dozens of discussion comments the past few weeks about ethanol and the proposed ethanol plant in Bridgewater township. (Clicking the ‘ethanol‘ tag in our tag cloud at anytime will fetch those posts and their attached comments.)

Time to take a straw poll to see which way the wind is blowing among the readers of this blog and the listeners of our podcast.

You can attach comments to this blog entry to let us know why you voted as you did. If you hate straw polls, won’t take this one, but still want to comment, that’s fine, too.

Tom Hammell’s report on the proposed ethanol plant with color photo of the Progressive Rail banner was front page in Faribault Daily last Sunday, Jan. 7. That same report is in Northfield News today, Jan. 10, so hopefully the general public will catch on to what’s happening.

I’m surprised there have been no letter about that banner in NNews. City of Northfield will be reminding Fellon of limit of 24 days to have it there. I would have also liked them cited for non-compliance in regard to message. I see a smaller sign, identifying Progressive Rail and Prairies to Power, was added over the weekend.

Stephanie, what are you referring to when you say “… cited for non-compliance in regard to message.” ??

As I understand it, the sign has to relate to products created on the site or some such. The sign is proposing a project for a different site. It will be easier to enforce the time limit of 24 days as opposed to the message itself.

It might be expected that Progressive Rail will just keep moving the sign down the track, a musical chairs thing.

The whole rush to grain based biofuels had already negative consequences for grain prices, the prices are significantly up. This means for the consumer we pay more for our daily food. Personally I think we need to change our love for the driving by using more efficient vehicles this will help more in the long run. And does not waste more public funds at “big business”

Save your Saturday, Jan. 20, Northfield News with Jason Hill “Biofuels 101” on the front page. Gives the effect of the h ero of Star Wars, looking to the future. Could be a collectors i tem!

Thanks to all of you who got to the talk at St. Olaf Thursday night. A full house, lots of interest. Jason also spoke at the Legislature today, Tuesday, Senate Subcommittee on Energy chaired by Sen. Gary Kubly. Sorry I didn’t get up there for that also.
