Carbone’s Pizzeria coming to River Park Mall. Answer these pizza-related questions

Carbone's Pizzeria  620 River Park Mall

Carbone’s Pizzeria, a chain based in Minnesota, will soon be moving into 620 River Park Mall, most recently the home of 620 Grill. (Source: Norman Butler, leaseholder of the space.) When I was in high school, Carbone’s Pizza on Randolph Ave. in the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul was one of my main hangouts. It’s not part of this chain, however. History here.

Their WordPress-based website looks like it’s done well. I mostly like how they’re using their blog and their Twitter feed, too.

Much impressed with Nathan’s treatise. A couple of additions:

    Question #1:

    Pizza Hut (Clinton Lane)
Red Barn Farm (southeast of town)

    Question #2:

Pizza Hut (where George’s is now)
    Papa John’s (right?)

    Question #4:

    Fieldhouse

And if you’ve become jaded with all the pizza possibilities in Northfield, there’s a new place in the old Ruby’s Bar in Denison, called Johnny Angel’s.

Question no. 2: This goes back a ways. Safari Pizza on Water Street was where I would come down from Manitou to meet my Carleton boyfriend to eat pizza and listen to “our songs” on the jukebox. Strangely, when I moved back to Northfield in 2004 not even townies recalled the name. But I finally found it in print when researching something else!

Pizza in one form or another is probably available at both colleges 24×7.

And there’s also the fantastic flatbread pizzas at the Ole Store (and at the Tavern on Fridays and Saturdays). Northfield — land of pizza palaces and hair salons. Oh, and lawyers.

Probably one of the best pizzas in town comes out of my daughter’s bread machine on Friday nights. Too bad the rest of you don’t get a chance to sample it. Nyah! Nyah! Nyah!

Let’s not forget Gary’s Pizza that replaced B & L’s, that replaced Pizza Man. 🙂

We had the Sicilian pizza at Johnny Angel’s (Dennison) last night. It was very good and different from anything I’ve had in town.

  10. There wasn’t pizza at the colleges as such when I was there — we just had to order stuff.

The old Pizza Hut was in the building that’s now George’s; the new one is a delivery/carryout located on Highway 3. Pretty sure Domino’s has been the same all along. And the 620 place was Fieldhouse, Butler’s Steak and Ale, the 620 Grill, and now Carbone’s.

I’m pretty enthused about Carbone’s. I love the greek pizza places, but I would sort of prefer more variety of pizza instead of three places which do very similar stuff. 🙂
