No faux.
With the change in my business focus and multiple other interests emerging, I’ve decided that now is good time for me to see if someone else is interested in taking over this Locally Grown Northfield blog, domain name, and community of commenters.
It’s been a good ride for seven years, broadcasting 200 podcast episodes with Ross Currier and Tracy Davis; authoring 4,000 blog posts (800 by Ross and Tracy); moderating 45,000 comments; and publishing 20,000 community photos. (FYI, Ross and Tracy aren’t part of this transaction.)
I’ll have more details later this week when I put the site up for auction but I wanted to get the word out here this morning in case anyone has informal questions or comments.
If you’re interested in talking with me about possibly purchasing the site, contact me.
Griff, I am glad I have you as a friend because I will sorely miss your insights into Northfield on LoGroNo, but will still hear them straight from the horse’s mouth.
I’m moving from sad to extremely sad….but I get it.
Griff, you have done a great service bringing together opinionated folks for local online debate. Before you auction the site I think you should auction the final word or post then you might be able to retire. Imagine how much posters would bid to not let someone else have the final say.
Griff, we once chatted about the possibility of face recognition software being able to make an index of your local personalities photo archives – I hope the result of your auction will preserve the files until easy-to-use software becomes available.
Thanks for being my first-ever webmaster years ago, for taming my preference for on-line sarcasm, for promoting my out-of-the-box local events, and for provoking citizen input into local issues.
So Griff, are you saying that….(hum, just can’t duplicate your style). All the best for what’s next for you.
I always enjoyed your work as a photojournalist and the many events I got to enjoy through your camera eye. I hope you will keep the photos for public access in the future. Good luck in your endeavors and may you always be forever young.
Well, Griff, as the old saying goes, all things must come to some end. It has been great interracting with you and the LGN faithful. At least you are not leaving town! I still have hopes of getting together with you for coffee. I know you’ll do just great in your new position.
Griff…I’ve been our of town for a few months and haven’t checked locally grown. So I checked in today only to find that you’re selling. Just want to say that you have provided a real important forum for folks in Northfield and I have very much enjoyed reading and posting here. Good luck.
Indeed you will, Bruce. Our weekly coffee confabs will continue.
Clever idea, David!
Dean, no matter what happens, I’ll retain ownership and control of the photos.
And incidentally, the face recognition software is now available. It works on both Picasaweb/Google+ photos, on Facebook’s photos, and probably others.
Thanks, John. Likewise. And yes, meetings over coffee must continue!
Thank you, Bill. It’s not over yet and I have no idea what’ll happen next.
One only has to see how LG has been dormant in recent days/weeks to see how much energy it has to absorb to keep ‘alive’ , and how much of that energy has to be primed by its moderator.
But it is sad to see how this forum for community discussion has just dissolved…
Kiffi,
Agreed.
Griff,
Northfield has benefited greatly from the quality of LGN and the discussion it fosters. I hope it will continue to thrive after it is sold!
Thanks, Bill. There are some things in the works that might make my announcement of a sale premature. Stay tuned!
