What’s the City’s process for resolving the rental housing issue?

rentalhousereport_tn.png.jpgThe Rental Housing Study (PDF) that was handed out at Monday’s City Council meeting is on the city’s website. (I found it here.)

I was unable to find the report from the rental ordinance task force that was completed a week or more ago. Anyone have a link to that for us here? If it’s not available on the City website, why not?

Northfield News reporter Ariel Emery wrote an article for the Wed edition of the paper. It’s titled Rentals revisited: Draft may be ready March 19; 32-page rental study sums up what’s been said.

Some councilors suggested that one or more sessions for public feedback be held before the draft is presented in late March. Others disagreed, saying that there would be nothing concrete to give feedback on until an ordinance is presented. City Councilor Jim Pokorney countered that if the public reacted strongly against what’s presented in late March, he wouldn’t want to have to go all the way back to the beginning of the drafting process.

I’m clueless about the whole process that the City has used to-date since this issue came to fore in March, 2006.

I’m now interested in trying to understand the process it plans to use in order to try to resolve this problem.

So if anyone wants to talk process, this is the place.

Griff: if you want to understand a little more about the way forward on the rental housing issue (not sure how much history will be revealed) you should attend the Special City Council Meeting tonight Jan. 29, as this meeting was set, after last weeks city council meeting, for the express purpose of spending an entirework session on this difficult subject.
I think there will be interested parties in the audience that can fill you in on the process history.

I think the City should stop horsing around and get on with it.

The other day I went horseback riding. Everything was going fine until the horse started bouncing out of control. I tried with all my might to hang on, but was thrown off. Just when things could not possibly get worse, my foot gets caught in the stirrup. When this happened, I fell head first to the ground. My head continued to bounce harder as the horse did’nt stop or even slow down. Just as I was giving up hope and losing consciousness, the Walmart manager came and unplugged it. Thank Goodness for heroes!

I think I get that joke, Peter.

Hey, did anyone attend last night’s Council meeting on this issue… and if so, might I entice you to report your thoughts about it?
