ShareThis widget added

We’ve added the ShareThis widget to Locally Grown’s WordPress platform. The widget (which “lets you instantly access all of your profiles, blogs, friends, and contacts for easy sharing and updating”) is visible at the bottom of each blog post. ShareThis, according to CNet, is:

… an all-in-one widget that lets people share any content on the Web with friends via e-mail, phone, or text message. ShareThis shows up on the page as a simple icon, but when clicked, it allows users to send the related material (i.e., a story) to Digg, Facebook, MySpace.com, or any number of related social applications. The widget can also keep an account of personal contacts so that users can send an e-mail, IM, or text message with favorite links to friends.

They also have handy a browser button add-on for both FireFox and IE that makes it easy to similarly share anything you find on the web. I imported my Gmail contact list to make it easy to email stuff I find to others.

Thanks to Northfield-based website and blog designer Tim Jackson, ComputerTitan, for the tip. He’s added it to 5th Bridge.

  1. Addthis is good too, but doesn’t have all the features that ShareThis has. Addthis only lets you share URL’s, where Sharethis allows you to share individual posts and/or specific content. AddThis also doesn’t allow you to import your address book from emails, myspace, or aim, to make it easy to share to your friends on all those places. Sharethis has some improvements to make, but is the best out there in my mind.

  2. Thanks for the great feedback, we are excited to have your blog in our network. Local, community centric content is so important to us. Please don’t hesitate to give us feedback – good or bad.
    Best, Julie
