Downtown businesses get blooming

Many downtown businesses and organizations have climbed on the America in Bloom — Northfield bandwagon. Others have had flowers for a long time. I zoomed around Division St. over the weekend and snapped photos of the increasingly colorful downtown. Attach a comment if you know of storefronts I missed.

I’ve noticed some pots and planters popping up outside of downtown, too. For instance, there are some containers with the Northfield in Bloom colors near the James Gang coffeehouse on Hwy. 3.

Not to be blowing our own horn (ok, so I’m tooting a bit) – Grundhoefer and Ludescher has some beautiful planters!

Thx for the heads-up, Vicki. I’ll swing by for a photo. I need to earn some brownie points with that Ludescher fella anyway. 😉

  4. Props to John “Frenchy” Jacob for choosing and tending to all the flowers at Froggy Bottoms and the decks and on Water Street for the law office and pub. He says they will be at full glory in a couple weeks. He also gets the flags going on the decks. Frenchy has lived in one of the apartments above Froggy Bottoms for 22 years now. All the other apartments are now available as Froggy Suites (since Jake Hv. moved to a house, there are now two suites that face the river, three facing the street).
Frenchy does a great job bringing color to the river and we featured his flowery work in the Summer/Fall Froggy Times which can be read at http://www.froggybottoms.com, click on FrogBlog, then on Froggy Times, Summer/Fall 2006. Thanks, Frenchy! Your volunteer work is appreciated.

  6. Thanks to you, Griff, these photos will be in the archives of the Northfield Historical Society for future generations to ponder and enjoy! It is important to document the scenes of our town, subject to change as they can be, and these photos from May of 2008 are a help in that mission. Thanks again!

  7. What about the beautiful floral displays at Lansing’s Fresh Start Flower Emporium…my name, not theirs. That’s a natural.
