Manny Being…a Five Hundred Home Run Hitter

manny_homerun.jpgQuick, while Griff and Tracy are looking the other way…

…I’ll do a post that has nothing to do with Northfield.

Boston Red Sox Left Fielder Manny Ramirez hit his five hundredth home run last night. He joins a very exclusive club in major league baseball.

As some of you know, I went to high school in Wellesley, Massachusetts. I still feel the pain of the 1975 World Series.

I’ve been a Twin Fan since 1981, so I haven’t followed the Red Sox quite so closely in recent years. However, I’ve always admired Manny. He may march to his own drummer, but the guy has always worked hard to achieve his goals. That’s something I respect in anyone.

So, here’s to Manny…

…and may the Twins take today’s game from them Damn Yankees.

  1. Ah, Ross. I am a Twins fan now that I am back in Minn. but lived in New York for close to 30 years, became a “Damn Yankees” fan there and worked for author Roger Kahn who wrote of the Brooklyn Dodger years in “Boys of Summer.” The Yankees have not done so well lately but Derek Jeter is still cool and may get hot later on. I admit I have been reluctant to wear in Northfield the collection of Yankee World Series T-shirts I brought with me. Now that I have outed myself, are there any other Yankee fans in town?

  2. Susan,
While my wife Anne (Larson) is a die-hard Twins fan (as am I), I have come to terms with the fact that she finds Mr. Jeter irresistible (it seems to have something to do with the pinstripes rear-view). He’s right up there in her pantheon with Johnny Depp…

Go Twins, and may Derek Jeter go 0 for 4, commit two errors, and cut himself shaving later today! I fart in the general direction of Mr. Derek Jeter and the Evil Empire he represents!

  3. LOL Bruce you are right on. I really don’t understand the female attraction with Mr. Jeter.

And Ross, when Manny was with the Indians, I hated him because he always killed the Twins, but now that he is with the Bosoxs, I have grown to like Manny and maybe it has something to do with him and David Ortiz (someone the Twins didn’t need BTW!!!!) being big friends, they are too goofy together.

Just another sports note to watch, keep your eye on Ken Griffey Jr. he is going for #600!

I LOVE BASEBALL! I was at the 4 home games of the 87 and 91 series (took Trip as an infant to the 6th game of 87 and as a 4 year old to the 7th game of 91) and went to the playoff games, too. I worked for Carl Pohlad, so I had an in on getting tickets. I have to say it is truly one of the high lights of my entire life (I know I am suppose to claim childbirth–but those women were not at the World Series.)

Manny is fabulous because of his hard work, which is also true of the team (Boston). Ken Griffey Jr. is also amazing.

If I was a millionaire I would spend all summer and fall going to baseball games in every city.

I am sick of the baseball prima-donnas–they pimp themselves to the highest bidder (which is also the fault of pro baseball) but you gotta love these guys when they pitch a perfect game or hit the 500th.

Baseball is one of the best things about the USA.
