Eritrean fundraising dinner, July 14th at Chapati

Last year’s Eritrean Fundraising Dinner raised nearly $2k for the American Refugee Committee (ARC).

Money raised from this year’s dinner (next Monday, July 14 at Chapati - see PDF poster) will be taken directly to Eritrea (in northeast Africa) by Bereket Haileab and Friewinne Kaleab (center photo). Local residents and a group of Carleton students met last week at Chapati (right photo) to plan this year’s event.

The poster reads in part:

Come share traditional Eritrean dishes, both meat and vegetarian, prepared by Bereket and Friewinne!. Thanks to generous donations from the hosts, Chapati, and many others, all money raised will be taken directly to Eritrea. If possible, make reservations and pay in advance. Checks may be payable to Chapati, with “Eritrean Fundraiser” in the memo line. Tickets are available from Chapati, and from many of your neighbors! Or you can mail your check to:

    Hello everyone:

We were very nervous about the dinner, but it turned out to be great. So many people attended and it seems that everyone had a great time.

We are in Dar es Salaam right now. It is hotter and humid than Northfield. Tanzania is doing really well right now, but there are lots of people who could use some help and it is hard to decide right away who will benefit. We will do our best and share every penny that was raised. We will send pictures soon.

    Have a great summer.
    Bereket
