Mill Towns Trail bridge delayed till 2009

mtt-logo

In Al Roder’s July 11 Friday memo:

The preconstruction conference was held this week for the Mill Towns Trail Bridge. The main topic discussed was schedule for the project. Due to the current unavailability of steel, the delivery of the steel to manufacture the bridge will not be until mid-November. The bridge delivery is anticipated early spring. The contractor will be submitting a revised schedule based on the discussions this week.

Last news update on the Mill Towns Trail website was January, 2007. Sigh. Most recent Nfld News article was May, 2008: Mill Towns Trail bridge will move forward.

I saw a blurb in the Nfld News a week or so ago that the trail head for Northfield has been delayed for two years… because of paperwork? Anyone know anything about this? There’s zilch on the MTT web site and zilch on the Mill Towns Trail Board page on the City of Faribault web site.

Griff, where is that trailhead exactly? Is that the one behind Walgreens? I sent some emails to Brian Erickson about that Transit Hub project and he told me exactly the same thing; that the project is tied up in paperwork:

There is at this point nothing on the website since most of the work ongoing is planning and environmental type paperwork to get required approvals. At this point there are some delays that are affecting the start date of the project.

Gabe, this MTT web page says:

The city of Northfield will develop a trailhead, complete with a parking lot and shelter, portable toilets, drinking fountain and informational kiosk, located at the intersection of Highway 19 and Highway 3.

So yeah, somewhere there by Walgreen’s! That’s where the bridge will be built, too.

I heard from a reliable source at the Transportation Meeting held at the High School, that the Trail head spot used to be a dump, and there is a need for some remediation.

I was told that the initial monies available would be put toward that remediation, and that they would need to reapply for further grants.

So… The gist is, that the trail head / Transit Hub/ Park & Ride is a couple of years off at least.

[...] Trail.  Today I noticed that construction on the bridge has visibly progressed. The bridge was supposed to have been constructed last year. [...]
