If a citizen were only interested in hearing items 10 through 12, what time would you suggest that they show up to the meeting?

Ross: If you were interested in items 10 – 12, it would have not benefited you to show up at all: #10 was postponed til the meeting on the 28th, #12 was stated by one of the negotiating councilors to not be completed (the negotiations, I presume, not completed) and # 11, which was agenda’d as a motion was revised to a discussion.

None of these three items had been presented in the packet, none had any info on-line, or greensheets at the beginning of the meeting, but were all either pulled or amended as noted in the agenda setting portion at the beginning of the meeting.

Another very frustrating meeting full of “inexplicables”…

Thanks for the update, Kiffi. Sounds frustrating indeed.

There was an important discussion on the rental ordinance – not so much on the proposed elimination the most clearly unconstitutional provisions (which was postponed), but on the 20% rule.

Jon Denison presented emails he had received from persons who were denied the ability to rent their unsold, vacated homes, and as a result they were in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure. Jon, Norman Butler, and a man I do not know by name spoke quite movingly and persuasively on the injustice and possible unconstitutionality of this rule. At least one of the emails also threatened (IMO justified) legal action against the city for this.

Hopefully the Nfld News, League, or someone who takes detailed notes at Council meetings could elaborate on this.

With all the “coffee house discussion” that does NOT favor spending close to a million dollars on renovations at City Hall (that is over, and separate from, the Johnson Controls energy-saving renovations), I was surprised to not see people there commenting in this matter at Monday’s Public Hearing.

Few people read the public notices in the NFNews ( and it was not specifically mentioned in that notice anyway) but I believe the News did have an alert in a article, Saturday, about the council’s agenda for Monday.
