There’s a Northfield city council meeting tonight at 7 pm, City Hall. The agenda (PDF) is packed and includes a presentation of the draft Comprehensive Plan by the Planning Commission, as well as items related to the CIP, the Rental Ordinance, the appointment of the interim city administrator, boards/commissions appointments (again), and the separation agreement for Al Roder who’s last day was Friday.

Public Services Director Joel Walinsky authored last week’s Friday Memo (PDF). See the Northfield city calendar for other public meetings that are scheduled this week.

A few other highlights – the Council received copies of the new Comprehensive Plan (see Tracy’s recent post). The Planning Commission and Council will be meeting together in the near future to review the Plan prior to the Council’s official adoption. No discussion took place last night.

The Rental Ordinance changes (which delete the building code issues which the State Supreme Court ruled unacceptable) passed its first reading.

    Thanks Betsey and Scott.

Was anything decided about Roder’s separation agreement?

No decision was reached about the separation agreement or whether such an agreement is needed. Scott, correct me if I’m wrong (it was getting pretty late at this point), but I think the decision was to consider an agreement at a future meeting with the City’s employment lawyer, Roger Knutson, present and because Mr. Knutson is not available on Mondays, it will be a special meeting in the near future.

The debate appears to be over whether a separation agreement which, as currently proposed, would pay Mr. Roder $10,000 on signing and $25,000 when/if cleared in the Goodhue County investigation is (a) a needless expenditure of taxpayer dollars or (b) an insurance policy against future litigation.
