Northfield and the Web 2.0: The Machine is Us/ing Us

A bunch of us locals have been pushing Web 2.0 stuff onto our fellow citizens since the launching of the civic blogosphere project back in the summer of 2004.

The Northfield.org tagline “Community news, citizen produced” says it best. And it’s happening there.

Our Locally Grown tagline “Blogging and podcasting the people, issues, and events of Northfield, MN” is another way that three of us have been doing it.

Here’s a video clip that conveys what Web 2.0 is about, different than Time magazine’s Person of the Year: You issue tried to do. It was created by Michael Wesch, Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University. (A tip of the blogger hat to Bernadine Joselyn at the Blandin Foundation for blogging about this video.)

It’s cool. It’s inspirational. It’s well-done. It’s short: 4.5 minutes.

Watch out, Northfield. More Web 2.0 is on the way.
