[show_avatar email=sandy.vesledahl@wigleyandassociates.com] The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay for Life, teams of people camp out at local parks or fairgrounds and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events.
Relay for Life of Rice County will be held on Friday August 6th at the Rice County Fairgrounds from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. My team, “The Builders,” are from Northfield and will be participating once again. Last year our team raised over $7000 which helped the Rice County event to raise over $114,000 in total donations for the American Cancer Society. Everyone Relays for various reasons. I Relay to honor and remember the dear friends and relatives who have battled this disease. Our team lists the names of those we Relay for on the back of our team shirt. We currently have 79 names associated with our team and will be adding more names this year. That’s an average of 6 persons per team member who have been affected by this horrible disease in one form or another.
This is my way of fighting back against a disease that has taken too much from too many people. Won’t you please help us in our fight by honoring those who you may know who have been affected by giving a donation to our Relay for Life Team?
You can also contact me to purchase a luminaria for $10 in honor of a loved one who has been touched by cancer, support those who are still fighting and remember those lost to the disease. Luminaria line the track and are lit after dark. These can also be purchased at Premier Bank or during the AM hours of Crazy Daze at our table on Bridge Square. Thank you for your support!
