A Thanksgiving tradition: free coffee served outside at the closed Goodbye Blue Monday

Goodbye Blue Monday is closed on Thanksgiving but for several years now, a gang of morning regulars has been serving up free hot coffee to customers who stop by, thinking that the coffeehouse is open.

Yesterday when I stopped by, Jim Crow, Jim Gleason, and Jose Rodriguez were the beauties on duty.

Where did they get the coffee? Caribou!

I got this email from Northfielder and Happy to be from Iowa blogger Margaret Colangelo:

Merry Christmas Griff! Thought you’d enjoy this local “flash mob”. On Wednesday 12/22 my daughter Jean arranged a surprise serenade for her Secret Santa at Northfield’s Caribou Coffee – Mgr Amanda George. The guys involved are some members of the NHS group BCG. From the left they are Dan Remes, Connor Fink, Peter Duba, Cole Harding, Steven Carson, Sullie Ojala-Hembolt, and Theo Hofrenning. Customers there were so happy they were able to witness this! I was able to film the whole thing.

Be thankful for coffee and free wi-fi

James Gang Coffeehouse & Eatery Two of Northfield’s coffeehouses are open this Thanksgiving morning. I’m blogging this from one in my neighborhood, the James Gang Coffeehouse & Eatery (the only coffeehouse in town with a drive-thru), open till noon.  Caribou Coffee is also open but I’m not sure what their hours are today.
