]]> Saturday, December 10th is the date for the 10th Annual Northfield Jingle Bell Run/Walk.

Jingle Bell Run WalkThe tradition of the Northfield Jingle Bell Run is that each year 100% of race registration fees go to a local non-profit organization. In honor of the 10th Anniversary of the event, a total of $10,000 will go to 10 worthy charities selected by 10 local groups. The exciting results will be announced on the day of the race.

They’re hoping that they’ll be one of the ten groups selected to designate a charity of their choice. I hope to have identified those groups by sometime tomorrow.

]]> May 28, 2010: floating yellow barrier in the Cannon River Back on May 28, I took this photo of a floating yellow barrier under the 4th St. bridge just below the Ames Mill dam.  Once I confirmed with the police that it had nothing to do with the search for Brittney Landsverk, I assumed that some work on the retaining wall was about to begin.

I got an email yesterday from Adam Solyst at Carlson Capital Management and took this photo late in the afternoon:

July 8, 2010: floating yellow barrier in the Cannon RiverFor over a month now there has been a large yellow floating barrier in the Cannon river between Carlson Capital Management and the Hvistendahl, Moersch, and Dorsey law office (it can be seen easily from the 2nd street bridge).  It started on Carlson’s side in what appeared to be a setup to block off water to the wall and create a dry area in which to work.  But after it was set up nothing happened.  It eventually broke free and floated until it rested in itss current position.  I feel as though whoever put it there originally has forgotten about it.  I can offer no other explanation.

Anyone know what’s up?

]]> Peter Seebach and my wife both alerted me to a massive ice jam on the Cannon River today. It apparently extended from the 5th St. bridge back to the Hwy 3 bridge by Babcock Park.  But by the time I got there at 5 pm Cannon River ice jam breaks up; photo by Tim Jacksonto take a photo, it had broken up and mostly cleared.

Fortunately, Carlson Capital Management’s Tim Jackson (who also has his own web design company, Computer Titan) captured the breakup with a photo and some video.

Dear friends at Locally Grown – The 8th annual Northfield Jingle Bell Run/Walk was held on Saturday the 12th and was a great success.  We had a super turn out and early numbers indicate that as a community we raised around $3,500 for the HealthFinders Collaborative.  The 2009 planning committee sincerely thanks everyone who came out to run, walk or volunteer!

Top finishers are posted on the JBRW home page, along with the names of “local businesses and individuals who contributed food, beverages or winner prizes.”
