Light Up Northfield! KYMN’s Christmas lights contest is back

After years on hiatus, we are re-launching “Light up Northfield,” a residential, exterior Christmas light contest.

We will be judging Christmas-light & decorations within the Northfield city limits or a maximum of  5 miles from the city borders.  We will be announcing 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners on December 17th, 2010. Winners will receive a prize package full of great tickets and passes to regional events. Winning names will be announced and photos of their homes will be displayed on KYMN’s website.

Entrants are encouraged to upgrade their lighting displays with eco-friendly and cost saving LED lights, but is not required.  Winners will be judged on overall creativity and showmanship.

Enter your exterior residential Christmas light display and win.  See all the details at KYMN!

Listen to your Twins baseball locally all summer

[show_avatar email=tim@kymnradio.net]Just a reminder that without a clear channel like WCCO carrying the Minnesota Twins, you’ll need your local syndicate to get the best quality sound when you’re out and about listening to your soon-to-be-World-Champion-Minnesota-Twins!  With permission of MLB, we broadcast all games in real time, cutting in local ID drops, commercials, and liners.

So, when you go from TV, to the yard, to the car, keep it tuned to 1080AM KYMN for your Twins action!

Listen live to KYMN while mousing around LoGroNo

We installed a KYMN 1080 Radio live audio stream widget on our upper left sidebar yesterday, similar to what Northfield.org has had on their right sidebar for quite a while. When you click the “listen live” image/button, a streaming bar appears on the bottom of your web browser window that looks like this. Friends you can count on

I got treated last week to a surprise birthday party, orchestrated by my sweetie. She called on these people to help:

Jeff Johnson Tim Freeland Doug Bratland Bridgette Hallcock
L to R: Jeff Johnson, KYMN, emceed the roast; Tim Freeland, KYMN, took the video; Doug Bratland took 24 photos at the start of the party and blogged them within an hour on Northfield.org; and Bridgette Hallcock, DJJD photographer who took over 300 photos throughout the evening (including the above ones of Jeff, Tim and Doug). I’ve put up a party photo album of 100 of Bridgett’s photos here.

Bridgette Hallcock Photography, Castle Rock, MN 507-271-3262 Bridgett’s the best special event photographer around, IMHO. Her card says: "Bridgette Hallcock Photography, Castle Rock, Specializing in outdoor photography of seniors, families, and special events. 507-271-3262."

Update 10/3: Robbie was horrified when she saw this blog post because I didn’t include two people who worked behind the scenes with her prior to the event:

Jessica Paxton Tracy Davis
Jessica Paxton and Tracy Davis. Thanks, ladies!

KYMN Radio’s 30-second survey

Tim Freeland’s Crazy Daze photo album

crazy daze kymn sshot I completely dropped the ball last week on taking photos during Crazy Daze.

But fortunately, KYMN’s Tim Freeland picked it up and went all the way for the score.

See his Crazy Daze 2009 blog post which contains his album of 38 photos.

City cleanup of business property: what’s the criteria and who pays?

old Tires Plus site The old Tires Plus site got some spiffing up (sweeping, lawn mowing) by City of Northfield workers last week (photo courtesy of Tim Freeland).  I don’t understand why this was done relatively quickly while the weeds and construction debris at The Crossing have been a problem for years. And who’s paying for it?

They say the neon lights are bright on…

KYMN neon sign As I drove by KYMN’s studios on Division St. this morning, I noticed that they have a new neon sign in the window.  Station manager Jeff Johnson says some people still think their studios are out with their tower in Waterford Township so the sign is to help remedy that. Tim Freeland has a blog post on it.

Northfield.org hires two bloggers to be news reporters

n.org-logo With the departure of RepJ reporter Bonnie Obremski, our friends at Northfield.org have decided to fill the gap by hiring bloggers Adam Gurno and Tim Freeland to do local news stories.  Their first three stories appear today:

Competition is good. Welcome to the neighborhood, boys.

The Freelands: they’re hip (I think)

Al Freeland, Tim FreelandAl Freeland and son Tim Freeland were hamming it up Saturday night at the Northfield Historical Society Annual Meeting/Membership Ball. They’re obviously got some sort of hip body lingo thing going but I’m too clueless to know what it’s about. Anyone? Anyone?
