Al QuieI’ve long been a fan of Al Quie, a moderate Republican congressman and governor whose  legacy of bipartisan problem-solving is one I admire.  But his letter to the editor in the Strib yesterday fussing over the ELCA vote last summer to allow gays and lesbians, in committed relationships, to serve as clergy makes me wonder: What is he afraid of? As a letter writer in today’s paper states: “no congregation will be forced to call a pastor it deems unfit.”

Worse, he states “Think about our youth. The ELCA decision is a travesty upon our youth.” That’s bullshit, and even most evangelical youth would agree with me. See this for example:

Photo by Bridgette Hallcock, taken at last year’s Susan Perry Memorial Walk for Animals Last week I got emails from Sandy Vesledahl and Bridgette Hallcock at Premier Bank, alerting me to an upcoming pancake breakfast fundraiser for the Rice County Humane Society (RCHS). (Dog photo by Bridgette, taken at last year’s Susan Perry Memorial Walk for Animals.) I assumed they wanted me to blog about it so I pitched them a Locally Grown membership instead:

‘Twould be great to have Premier Bank as a member of LG. Then you could promo events like this as a community service of Premier.  Of course, you can also promo bank-related products and services, too.

Sandy then had the brilliant idea of the bank not only buying a Locally Grown membership for themselves but a separate one for RCHS so that they could do their own sidebar membership blog posts.

eda-brochure-spread-sshoteda-brochure-sshotRandy Jennings, Occasional Press, sent me PDFs of the new Northfield brochure that he created for the City of Northfield Economic Development Authority (EDA).

It is intended to be used as a take-away piece when Economic Development Director, Jody Gunderson, and others meet with business folks and investors considering moving a business to or starting a business in Northfield.

It’s a classy-looking, well-done brochure (and that’s not just because he used some of my photos). I don’t know how much it cost. Anyone?
