John Thomas sent us this photo of the time/temp sign at the Community Resource Bank this morning.
Locally Grown (LoGro) Northfield Posts
Looks like Tim Sellars has figured a way to legally have a Nativity scene display on the sidewalk in front of Tiny’s. There’s no baby Jesus there so it’s not really religious, just a display of a bunch of Palestinian figurines hanging around, waiting expectantly for the hot dogs to be served.
Update 12/3, 6:15 am: The Palestinians evidently have not been waiting for hotdogs. New photo taken this morning on the right.
I’ve put up a bunch of annoying Locally Grown membership ad banners… up top, on the right, and at the top of discussion threads. (Hey, at least they add some color to the boring new theme I’ve installed.)
You can remove the banner ads from your view, become a sidebar blogger, and do a good deed at the same time. Read the Membership FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) and then click and join.
Membership week goal: 25 new members. I’ll keep you posted on the totals here.
There’s an article in the Winter 2009 issue of Southern Minnesota Magazine titled A Winter Walk to Remember (PDF on Chamber’s site or viewable in Flash here) that’s all about Northfield’s Winter Walk.
Somehow, word of this got missed, so I’ll start at the end and work back to the beginning: There is an open house today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday) from 4:00-6:00pm at Community Resource Bank, 1605 Heritage Drive. The purpose of the open house is to get reaction to each day’s work on design/concept charrettes drafted by HKG with input from the steering committee. The charrettes are very much works in process. I’ll add details to this post as I can over the next couple of hours (I’m between meetings). But for now – please plan to attend the open house and give feedback on the concepts being considered.
Our radio show/podcast guest this week: Nancy Braker, Director of the Carleton Arb (AKA the Carleton College Cowling Arboretum), talking with us about the great things happening with the Arb and some of the challenges. (Guess which is the biggest problem currently: off-leash dogs, invasive species, or overabundance of deer?)
It’s the last day of a warm November and with the weather about to shift, here’s a look at some fall color photos of the Carleton Arb and of downtown Northfield via my camera’s macro lens. While the killer frosts in early October ruined much of the area’s usually spectacular fall color, it made for some interesting close-ups.
The Northfield Public School District is hosting public feedback sessions today and tomorrow (PDF of Supt. Chris Richardson’s memo) on the Compañeros Partial-Immersion Spanish Program currently offered at Bridgewater and Greenvale Park Elementary schools.
Northfield’s 11th Annual Winter Walk is coming up this Thursday, Dec. 3. See the schedule of events (PDF) on the Northfield Area Chamber of Commerce site.
I’ve taken quite a few photos of the event since 2002. (Alas, I missed ‘07). See the albums for 2002, 03, 04, 05, 06 and 08. See the large slideshow for 2008 or this small slideshow:
