Thanks, Griff! I had to be in Faribault early this a.m.and couldn’t join the crowd on the Hiway 3 bridge. I was fully confident you’d be on hand for this historic event with your trusty camera. When I came back to town at noon – there it was, all installed and here are the photos to prove it!

We should have party down there when they’ll let us – to celebrate and to name the bridge in Peggy’s honor.

    Jane,

I second your idea to name the bridge in Peggy’s honor. Randy Perkins sent out an email today to city council members and others suggesting the same, and also that she should be the first person to ride (or walk) across the bridge.

    Thanks for the photos, Griff!

    Public announcement:
There will be a resolution before the council on Monday, May 4th proposing to name the bridge in honor of Peggy. A couple of Rotarians suggested this to me in confidence about a month ago and we have been working in that direction ever since.

I had the great pleasure of thanking the Rotary for their generous contributions to the bridge (close to $110,000!!!) today at our noon meeting and Peggy for her tireless efforts to get this and other pieces of the trail in place. I then read the resolution and I must say that the look on Peggy’s face was absolutely priceless!

The bridge will officially be dedicated in August during a ceremony to open up the Mayor’s Tour de Art. The proposed date is Saturday, August 15th, so mark your calendars now. We don’t have an exact date as to when the bridge will be usable since there is still the concrete decking and ramps to finish, but it will be an exciting day when the east and west sides of town are connected for bike traffic.
