Bill Ostrem, pedestrian/bike advocate, blogger, and chair of the Northfield Area Task Force on Nonmotorized Transportation, alerted me to the new white stripes (no, not The White Stripes) on Lincoln St./Lincoln Parkway. He learned from City Administrator Joel Walinski at the 3rd Ward meeting on Saturday that the striping is for traffic calming. Bill wrote, “As long as there are few cars parked on the street, I see them as being quasi bike lanes. Now we’ll see if they actually slow traffic.” As a chronic speeder, I’m all for more white stripes.
Since this is my daily route home, I really appreciate the stripes. Before them, it was just one wide open thoroughfare. It really allows for easier bike/pedestrian/auto traffic, and it better designates the parking area. As far as slowing traffic, the very visible squad car this morning will do a better job of that.
Hah. White Stripes. Had me REALLY excited there for a minute, Griff.
Sorry to mislead you, Marie. Good thing I’m not a journalist. 😉
Yep, GW, I saw you speeding by my house this week on your cicle at about 3.5 mph.
I barely recognized the blur.
I hope you got your citation for wearing the helmet. 🙂
