That’s some good-looking guacamole! And tamales, too?

We had the tamales last night. Griff isn’t a fan of tamales but I have to say that I haven’t tasted authentic tamales since I left California many years ago. Fantastic! The “guac” was to die for!

The do have a little space to sit and eat but the music is way to loud for me. Take out was great and they also have a lot of groceries, I picked up perfect mangos as well.

Hola! We went to La Eskina
this afternoon and had burritos, me a vegetarian burrito which was created maybe for the first time, and D had the beef burrito.
We both enjoyed our food tremendously, adding the salsas, red and green, as we munched along.
We could not find the meaning of the word, Eskina,
except that it is a family name.
I had the Tarmarinda soda pop
    drink and it was delishes.
The price was perfect for a quick lunch deal and the people were very nice. We noticed a half dozen people who look like they were there for the first time, too.

    WOW! WOW! WOW!

I took the family to dinner this evening, and was expecting a decent burrito, at a reasonable price.

We started with something safe. We ordered three beef burritos($2.99 each!), and 3 Lime Sodas. (Total $13.97)

Simply incredible! I was COMPLETELY BLOWN away at how good these are.

I went back to order some tamales, but they were not ready yet. Something to look forward to next time.

The family wanted to see what else the menu had to offer, so I then went back and ordered us another beef Burrito, a Flautas, and a Tostada. (Total $5.97)

They were busy, and a bit behind… but no worries. It was very pleasant waiting and people watching.

After a few minuted, the gentleman that was cooking brought us out a bowl of the most incredible Guacamole and chips that I have ever had.

The Flautas came out first, and were amazing. (He told me he gave me extra because of the wait). About 3 minutes later came the Tostada. Everything was just a wonderful explosion of flavor with every bite.

So, for just under $20, the family is incredibly full, and we had a simply amazing meal. Not since the Ideal Cafe closed have we had such awesome food. (Maria’s was very good too, but this is better.)

We look forward to many more frequent visits here, and enjoying many more adventures in food. (Breakfast tomorrow perhaps?) The Bakery and meat areas look interesting as well, and the grocery stock is coming along.

All I can say is FOUR STARS! The establishment is not much to look at inside, and the music is a little loud, but the people are vibrant and eager to please… and the food is simply amazing!

I plan to tell everyone I see in town. Great stuff! They were busy, and there was a line when we arrived about 5:30.

I plan on getting several burritos next time, and taking them to work for lunches. Great food, and a great value. Please, lets support them, and keep them around. It really is a treat.

I was there last week with a friend from Guatemala. She and I enjoyed the grocery store very much. I thought the tamales were incredible, and I didn’t think I liked tamales.

Bright, my friend told me the meaning of the name, but I don’t remember for sure. Something about “the best” or “beyond the best” if I remember correctly.

  12. Amy, I am pretty sure that “Eskina” is an Americanization of the Spanish word “esquina,” meaning “corner.” It was Corner Mart” before. According to my dictionary, there are only 50 words starting with the letter “k” in Spanish, words of mostly foreign origin(such as “kilogramo” or “kimono”) and only NINE in the abridged dictionary I have, so you can see that the letter “k” is not used much in Spanish).

I have now had flautas, burritos and enchiladas at "La Eskina," all very good, and I spoke with those working there, who are from Acapulco in Mexico, home of the famous cliff divers. I saw those divers when I was studying at the University of Veracruz---¡muy loco!

Susan, I wouldn’t make a very good researcher or reporter. I was talking about the wrong, new Mexican restaurant!
