I saw Jane McWilliams’ blog post on Northfield.org about the Blandin Community Leadership Program (BCLP) information sessions held last night in Northfield and Dundas. I attended the one at the Northfield Public Library, along with about 40 other interested folks. Blandin’s Leadership Recruitment Coordinator Becky Adams presented.
Two teams will be selected from the area:
24 people from Northfield (link to application forms and info) and 24 from Dundas/Bridgewater/Northfield. Application deadline is January 18. This will be the 4th time a team from Northfield has participated in the BCLP.
Each community is represented by both established and emerging community leaders. They represent the community from diverse sectors including: education, business, government, healthcare, social services, faith communities, volunteers and retirees.
A team of people at Blandin decides who will participate, though I’m not clear on whether that’s a new aspect of their selection process, as this Feb. 2004 Nfld News article, Residents complete Blandin retreat, indicates otherwise:
Participating teams, chosen by a local selection committee, are representative of the community’s ethnic and cultural diversity, varying levels of involvement, occupations and life situations. Representing Northfield at last week’s BCLP retreat were:
Jean Boardman, Betsey Buckheit, Keith Covey, Tristan Cox, Ross Currier, Scott Davis, Ken Engstrom, Soren Erickson, Iris Erlingsdottir Lee, Amy Gage, Jeni Greene, Ron Griffith, Jaime Lizaola, Marybeth Luing, LaRue Pierce, Mary Rossing, Susan Sanderson, Mary Savina, Christopher Sawyer, Jennifer Sawyer, Glenn Switzer, Candy Taylor, Pat Vincent and Kris Vohs.
Blandin Community Leadership Program update: the Dundas/Bridgewater/Northfield team did their week-long retreat two weeks ago. The Northfield team is doing theirs this week.
I applied again and was selected as an alternate for the Northfield team but alas, didn’t get called.
Griff,
I have heard that we may not have to wait another 5 or 6 years to be able to have Northfield, Dundas & Bridgewater to participate again. Since many from Northfield applied and were unable to go due to the 24 participant limit we may get another chance sooner rather than later.
I was fortunate to be able to go with the Dundas/Bridgewater/Northfield group. It was a fantastic opportunity and I learned a lot. The Blandin Foundation does Minnesota a great service by offering this leadership program.

Thanks, Julie. I heard that someone from your group will be releasing a group photo with a list of attendees. Is that available yet?
Sorry to the delay Griff! I am not sure who is doing that.
