I’ve been a member of Northfield Athletic Club (formerly Olympus Athletic Club) since the building was constructed in the late 70s. Therese and Jeff Smiens purchased the club from Robin and Chad Johnson a few weeks ago and changes (new signage this week) are starting to appear. In last week’s Nfld News, Local couple buys Hwy. 3 athletic club:
To start, Smiens said, she is moving membership fees to a month-to-month schedule and is adding four fitness instructors and trainers to the club’s staff, each of whom has a different area of expertise.
The club will also be remodeled to incorporate a larger child care area, improved signage and a lounge on the first floor. To cater to the club’s triathlete crowd, Smiens is purchasing more exercise bikes and will create a triathlon interest group. Finally, the club’s new owners are also adding a number of classes to their retinue, including kickboxing, Pilates and body pump weight training.
