Downtown Post Office Gets Wheelchair-Accessible Ramp

USPS NorthfieldI’ve been out of town, so this may be old news to some, but when I went downtown to mail a letter, this is what I saw. Anyone know anything about the design of the ramp, or when it might be completed?

I am not sure what exactly is going on, but yesterday they had a large crane, and it appeared that they were moving or working with the flag pole.

I am not sure about the access ramp. This still looks like quite the incline from this vantage point. It must be going out to the left of this shot, then back to the door.

One would think the whole thing would need to be removed and redone.

Hopefully someone can corner one of the contractors and get further details?

Either way, some new-ness, and some fresh landscaping will do this area quite a bit of good.

I am all for a “historic” building, but the front steps and view was looking quite shabby.

I did speak briefly with one of the Kraus Anderson contractors – I asked what they were doing (“wheelchair ramp”) and when it would be done, to which her answer was, “I have no idea. We were just told to dig.”

There’s some destruction – er, construction – on the other (west) side of the entrance too, that doesn’t show in the picture.

Isn’t this wonderful? Thanks to all who worked on this issue.

I recall a discussion about it earlier, but where was it? N.org discussion of some sort? It is good to see, and thanks for the kind hearted people who worked on this.

    I am glad for you.
