Northfield Visitors Guide, Winter 2010 edition: a well-kept online secret

winter visitors guide sshot I got a tweet in mid-January from NHS ED Hayes Scriven that the Jan-Mar 2010 Northfield Visitors Guide was available. The flash version is embedded on the NHS home page

But I can’t seem to find it on the Northfield Area Chamber of Commerce site nor on their Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Visiting Northfield web site. It’s not linked to or mentioned on the City of Northfield’s visitor page and I couldn’t find it on the Northfield.org or NDDC blogs either.

I know, I know, the print version is the main thing and it’s distributed about town. But why not make it easy for Northfielders to email it, blog it, tweet it, and post to their Facebook Walls about it so that their non-Northfield friends and colleagues take a look at it?  It costs virtually zero to do this. Plus, the thing is full of great photos, BTW. Heh.

So allow me to do my part. Here’s the PDF version, courtesy of LoGroNo. Here’s the Flash version, courtesy of Hayes Scriven and the NHS. Go forth and multiply it, by which I do NOT mean what Brits mean when they say go forth and multiply.

  1. Griff,

The code that I used to put the Visitors Guide online was distributed to the CVB/Chamber and to the Archer House. If I get five seconds free today I am going to send it to the News and KYMN.

    Hey Griff –

I posted a “teaser” on this new publication back in October: http://nddc.org/weblog/post/2328/

As you noted, the print version is “the main thing”, however, “the main market” is visitors to Northfield, as the CVB has picked up leadership for the effort.

I think you’ve got a good idea, an electronic version should be available too, and the first location that comes to my mind would be the CVB’s site, VisitingNorthfield.com.

So, now that you’ve made your electronic point, what do you think of the quarterly approach to the Visitors Guide with an increased emphasis on events?

  3. I found 5 seconds this morning and I sent the code to the News, KYMN, Country Inn, Froggy Bottoms and CVB/Chamber again.

I wonder where they send the print copies. When I wait for the train in Red Wing, I visit the very nice CVB there (not to mention the art gallery.) i often don’t find the Northfield materials there.Maybe our CVB thinks the metro area is more fertile territory for luring people to town. However, when most other destination cities are represented in RW, we’re missing some visibility.

From what Kathy tells me is that the CVB guide gets sent to all the travel stations on the I-35 corridor and most on the I-90. The rail lines would be a good idea.
