The City of Northfield’s new outdoor pool was officially opened yesterday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and speeches by Mayor Lee Lansing, 2nd Ward Councilor Scott Davis, 1st Ward Councilor Jim Pokorney, and Park & Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) Richard Vanasek. Recreation Manager Jason Eisold introduced the pool staff.
The pool features “… a separate toddler pool, zero-depth entry, a 50-meter section, diving board, a 1/2 court basketball court…”

The pool is WONDERFUL!
However, I am very much concerned about the sod, and the new trees.
Nothing has been watered since they were installed. The sod is yellowing, and all of the new trees are in shock.
Who do we contact to see what is being done to correct this?
The trees need some deep overnight watering, and the sod needs water just to get the roots to set. My fear is that it is already too late.
There was all of this money spent on sod, when a more sustainable, lower maintenance solution could have been implemented.
In areas around the park that did not get sod, natural grasses should have been planted, instead of leaving all of the plain dirt to turn to weeds…
