I’m impressed that despite the surprise annexation of Northfield into the Township of Waterford that occured earlier today, our Mayor is still Mary Rossing. That’s quite a political feat.

Probably has something to do with the Township hardware store shenanigans.

There was an article in today’s Strib that a woman was lost in the skyway for several weeks and lived on discarded cinnabons until a couple of college students returning from their relief work in Haiti discovered her and helped her find her way back to her hotel. She claimed that people in the skyway won’t look at you or talk to you the way they do on the street. Did anybody else notice?

I saw it, Jane… by my former Utne Reader colleague and occasional Northfield speaker, Jay Walljasper titled Imagine no skyways

A misbegotten era in urban planning came to a close last week when the Minneapolis City Council voted unanimously to dismantle the downtown skyway system. The action follows similar steps taken recently in Calgary, Des Moines, St. Paul, Duluth, Houston and Sioux City.
