Land Development Code update

(Originally posted on my CityCommons.net blog.)

Thanks to the City Council, the Planning Commission, and especially to Tim Freeland of KYMN Radio and City Councillor Betsey Buckheit for making my job easier.

First, a quick update on the LDC from this morning’s KYMN Radio newscast.

Next, the video of last week’s presentation to the City Council on the Land Development Code as it relates to existing (“built residential”) neighborhoods:

Finally, more in-depth information and history from City Councillor Betsey Buckheit’s blog postshere and here.

I’ve turned off comments on my blog post so any discussion could happen here on LoGro.

Today’s Nfld News: Everyone invited to meeting on proposed ordinances

Residents will be encouraged to provide input on the document, based on the city’s 2008 Comprehensive Plan, which is a vision of the city’s future. Comments can be given orally or written on cards that will be provided. The draft ordinances, referred to as the Land Development Code, is also the topic of a public hearing tentatively set for Feb. 28…

Aligning the new ordinances with the comprehensive Plan took the Planning Commission the better part of three years. Prior to the current review, the entire code hadn’t been updated as a whole in several decades. As a result, Thomas said its members want to know if they’ve interpreted the Comp Plan in a way that assures that Northfield develops as its residents have envisioned.

    Mixed Use…? Does this mean:
    a) that the collection of buildings in a particular area or neighborhood are required (or allowed…which?) to have a mix of uses OR
    b) that a particular building is required (or allowed…which?)to have within it a mix of uses…?
