Photo album: Earth Day celebration

EarthdayPoster3-98x150 Yesterday’s Earth Day celebration (PDF poster), sponsored by Earth Day 2010 fanTransition Northfield, got moved indoors to the Armory when morning rains axed the planned Central Park location. But sun poked through by mid-afternoon and the non-booth activities moved outdoors on Division St. On the right: my favorite photo.

  1. Saturday, April 24 hosted a chance of rain and Earth Day at the Amory. Hundreds of people milled around talking about energy-use reduction strategies and learning how area businesses and community groups are organizing to consider, and even prepare for, a future more localized. Meanwhile, kids played tug-of-war and bounced a gigantic beach ball on Division Street next to three hours of fun music.

Next up: WHAT’S NEXT. Transition Northfield, organizer of the Earth Day event, is calling for a community-wide discussion to keep our efforts focused on building sustainability, on identifying and meeting more of our needs with local resources.

Join with us Saturday, May 15th at the UCC, 300 Union Street from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The format will be open-space, accessible to all interested in and already involved in, developing a local plan of action towards sustainability and beyond.
