Yesterday’s Strib front page mentioned this in the tibits area but reader Paul Zorn sent me the link to the article in the Fort Worth, Texas Press Telegram titled Woo hoo! Slurpees are now Squishees.
Over the weekend, 7-Eleven Inc. turned a dozen stores into Kwik-E-Marts, the fictional convenience stores of “The Simpsons” fame, in the latest example of marketers making life imitate art… Malt-O-Meal, the Northfield, Minn., cereal maker, will conjure up a recipe for Krusty O’s, for example.
7-Eleven’s site says:
Available only while supplies last, KrustyO’s breakfast cereal in the convenient 13.5 oz. box is endorsed by Springfield’s most famous entertainer, Krusty the Clown. Is there a jagged piece of metal in every box? No, but there’s no nutritional value in every box either. Can you really eat it? Sure you can – Bart has been eating KrustyO’s for more than 18 years and, well, maybe that’s why he stays so young. It’s not just breakfast cereal – it’s collectible too!
Shockingly, there’s not a shred of this news on the MOM news page which hasn’t been updated since June of 2006.
The Nfld News has a story on this today: Malt-O-Meal makes KrustyOs for 7-Eleven
I e-mailed M-O-M’s “contact” address, asking where I might purchase the tasty treat, and got the reply below.
“We are sorry, but the cereal will only be made available through 7-Eleven stores which have been converted to Kwik E-Marts. You may check this website
http://www.7-eleven.com/kem.asp
for further information about the stores that are selling the cereal.”
Alas, the closest Kwik E-Mart is in the Hyde Park district in Chicago.
Go to the plant, cash in hand? 😎
I’ll be driving down to DFW tomorrow to pick up Emily, perhaps I can stop by the Dallas Kwik-E-Mart, and perhaps I can send the LG crew a box… perhaps.
ooh ooh Nick, that would be much appreciated. Fedex it to me and I’ll try to get someone from Malt-O-Meal to pose with it.
Blast! I did make it to the Kwik-E-Mart / 7-Eleven in Dallas this morning, but, they were out of Krusty-O’s, which was very surprising to me – I figured the store in the same city as the corporate headquarters would be well-stocked, but, it wasn’t.
Perhaps they’ll have another shipment in later this month (I’ll be down there again in a couple of weeks), otherwise eBay has dozens for sale.
Thanks for trying, Nick. I’ll see if I can get someone at MOM to sneak me a box.
