Girls Nite Out in jeopardy?

In today’s Strib: Ladies’ night not all right, state says.

Girls Nite Out, Northfield MNIt’s a bastion of bar culture: "Ladies’ Night," staged to attract female customers by cutting their drink prices and cover charges. It’s also illegal gender discrimination, according to the Minnesota Department of Human Rights. The department charged this week that by having ladies’ nights, five Twin Cities establishments denied men the right to "full and equal enjoyment" of their business.

This could mean that next year’s Girls Nite Out is destined to become Homo sapiens Nite Out or some such.

    Griff,
The ruling was simple: “Gender-based pricing violates the [state] Human Rights Act.”

So, “Girls Night Out” only needs to change if these businesses give special discounts or exclusive privileges to women on these nights – and deny those same discounts or privileges to non-women who happen to drop by that same day.

I hope that they don’t do that. Do they?

Good question, Patrick. I don’t really know. Can guys ask for the ‘pamper me’ special at Oolala? Buy a raffle ticket and gain admission to the Grand?
