Audio: Mary Rossing and What’s Happening Downtown

IMG_2580.JPGEvery week, Mary Rossing, proprietor of Present Perfect (not their website but at least it’s something), hosts a KYMN (not their website but… um, never mind) radio show with Jeff Johnson called “What’s happening downtown” that’s broadcast (1080 AM) on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s sponsored by both the NDDC and the Northfield Entertainment Guide published by By All Means Graphics.

I’ve been nagging Jeff and Mary to create a podcast for the show to give it a wider audience. They keep pretending to be clueless newbies so I thought I’d at least get the MP3 of the show and post it here on Locally Grown. (Note to the clueless: this does NOT make it a podcast. It just means the audio is available here for you to click and listen to. A podcast means you’d be able to subscribe to it, TiVo-like, and have it automatically delivered to your computer.

Click play to listen. 13 minutes.

Great job, Mary and Jeff. There’s a new event that you might like to add to your discussion. Machelle Kendrick of Northfield Chiropractic has recruited more than 30 businesses to participate in 4RealWoman, 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 27. The Village on the Cannon has opened its doors to the event, which will feature health and lifestyle exhibits and demonstrations, music and more. It’s kind of a garden party and mini-expo — with more than $3,000 in prizes and gifts. And admission is free.
This really is a grassroots effort, with lots of enthusiasm from businesses that really care about women — and about having some fun downtown.
I think it’s encouraging and exciting that businesses aren’t waiting for organizations to sponsor events (although that’s very important) but are doing cooperative marketing and fun events together. (And yes, I’m helping spread the word, just because they’re all working so hard and doing such a great thing.)

    OUTSTANDING!

This is exactly what I am talking about! Local businesses getting together, using cooperative marketing, and for a great cause!

Thanks, John! That kind of enthusiasm is just what we need at this point. We just want to get the word out, althought there is a bit of room for more businesses to join in. And if downtown bars or music venues want to participate, they can put up a poster to promote the event to their customers and we’ll be happy to share posters, drink coupons and information on ways women can continue the evening downtown at their venues.
    The more the merrier!
It has been great watching Machelle work with the businesses to put this together. She’s amazing.

Thanks Anne, I’m already involved in the women’s event and she will be a guest on Jeff’s morning show that Tuesday. But keep feeding me information directly about any entertainment or events downtown that you hear about!
