Warning: if you help promote, the devil (AKA your selfish self) might try to convince that you then don’t actually have to donate since you did a good deed. Don’t listen.

  2. NHS is ready!

KYMN Radio, The Archer House and Rebound Enterprises have said they will match dollar for dollar up to $2,000 if we can raise $2,000. All the money raised will go to the Taking Northfield History to the Next Level Campaign to improve usability and accessibility in the Scriver Building.

The best way to donate is to go to the NHS webpage, http://www.northfieldhistory.org and follow the instructions in the Taking Northfield History to the Next Level widget on the right side of the screen.

Griff, please add St. Olaf College to your list of Northfield area non-profits who are participating in Give to the Max Day! Last year, we were #6 in the state in overall participation and hope to do even better this year.

In addition to increasing participation in annual giving, we’re using this as an opportunity to educate students on the importance of philanthropy. By participating tomorrow, students will be “paying it forward” for the generation of Oles that will follow them. Hopefully, while they’re giving online to St. Olaf, they’ll choose to support other causes that align with their priorities.

The Student Alumni Association has taken the lead by planning a student philanthropy carnival, starting at 4:00 p.m. There will be fun games and activities (sumo wrestling suits, cakewalks, cotton candy, etc.) and we will be broadcasting real-time results in Buntrock Commons. Giving should be fun and we’re all looking forward to tomorrow!

  4. By giving on-line with GiveMN, you have the opportunity to make a huge difference for Prairie’s Edge Humane Society. GiveMN’s Give to the Max Day amplifies your giving impact in a number of ways. First, a $1,000 “Golden Ticket” will be given to a random donor’s charity every hour. You could be that donor! In other words, donating at “off hours” like very early in the morning or very late at night could give PEHS a better chance of winning the Golden Ticket. Also, your donation on November 16, could put PEHS on the leader board to win $10,000 or even $20,000 for the largest number of donors for our non-profit! Help us get “on the board” by donating to Prairie’s Edge Humane Society at http://givemn.razoo.com/story/Animal-Shelter-1

Thanks for setting up this forum, Griff.

This is the second year the Friends of the Northfield Library have participated in GiveMN. Donations to the Friends help support library programs (especially for children), new technology, and new items for the library’s collection, including books and DVDs. With the economy down, the library has also been a very busy resource for job-seekers.

Donors will find more information on what the Friends do to support the library and literacy in Northfield on the GiveMn page. http://givemn.razoo.com/story/Friends-Of-The-Northfield-Public-Library

Thanks for the links Griff…..I will add my plug for the Northfield Area Foundation. NAF got one of my donations today. NAF is a great organization that distributes funding grants to all sorts of local groups. Helping to make NAF larger will ensure continued grants into the community.

St. Olaf has been battling it out with the N. American Bear Ctr in Ely for #1. Not an insignificant matter since 1st place is $20K and 2nd place is $10k.

At 11:30 pm, the Bear Ctr is leading by 20 donors:

Breaking info: after final audits and post-event clean up for Give to the Max Day, St. Olaf took 1st place in Greater MN by 8 votes.

I’ve been in touch with the North American Bear Center and they are a classy, dedicated group devoted to black bears, specifically Hope and Lily.(Remember the “den cam”?) If you have any money to spare after yesterday’s philanthropic free-for-all, consider a gift to their organization: http://givemn.razoo.com/story/North-American-Bear-Center
