I rode by the John Liebenstein memorial on the Mill Towns Trail earlier this week and noticed that the bronze plaque on the large boulder is missing.

Here’s what the plaque looks like. I took these photos in July, 2004:

See this summary of Deputy John Liebenstein on the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA) website.

Anyone have more information about the missing plaque?

Update 7/21:  Here’s the new plaque. Details below:

Anyone know what entity has jurisdiction over the Liebenstein memorial? Mill Towns Trail? Bridgewater Township? Rice County?

I’ve been away camping/biking this weekend and a check of my overflowing inbox just now reveals the answer. Eric Johnson wrote last night:

    Griff-

I should have mentioned to you that I removed the plaque in question some three weeks ago. The green background had, for the second time, become chalky and faded to the point it was unsightly. As before I removed it and it went back to the manufacturer who continues to stand by his product. The reconditioned plaque, this time with brown background color, is now ready for reinstallation. I had planned to help Meg Otten do that this morning but wet weather makes for poor adhesion. Hope to get it reattached yet this weekend. I will let you know when it is ready for viewing.

    And then earlier this aft:

Check our the new plaque. Any reaction to the background color change?
