We’ve had over 1,000 comments from about 75 different people during the month of August. I don’t know how that compares to other months, as we’ve not been keeping track. On the one hand, that’s pretty darn good. On the other hand, it’s a common problem. See this article for more.
We’d like to increase the number of different voices, so I’d like try a variation on the talking stick strategy.
For the first week of September (maybe longer, I’m not sure), the only people who can add comments to new blog posts here on Locally Grown are those who’ve…
Added 10 comments or less during the month of August
- If you’re not sure how many comments you’ve added, contact us and we’ll let you know.
- Ross, Tracy and I are exempt from this policy, of course. We’ll want to discuss stuff with the newcomers and make y’all feel welcome.
- Violators will be dealt with harshly, though we’re still having fun dreaming up punishments
It’s still August, so anyone can chime in here, especially if you have questions or concerns about this strategy.
What Griff, no Letterman List of the Top Ten Comment-Makers on Locally Grown?
We know who we are, and a break is a great idea…Have fun!!
Will it be harder than quitting smoking????????????
A Whole Month? 30 Days?
Heck, Paris Hilton served a shorter sentence.
How about we consent to home monitoring? 😎
I should be promoted from co-host to co-lurker. I think I probably made fewer than 10 comments in August.
I think an alternative should be presented for those who like to
chat. I am leaving the membership to be approved by me, but if you
include the code word ‘Freedom’, I’ll approve you. I have started to be very busy having joined an online MCAD class, but I will be around from time to time. Have fun!

Oh, Sorry, I should add that this offer is just for the amount of time that locally grown is closed to super posters. I am not trying to steal the list, just give it a temporary home.
That’s fine, Bright. Everyone should be aware that the Northfield.org forums and the Northfield.org ISSUES list are both available, too.
If this was an oral presentation, I would have to bite my tongue. What do I do now? Bite my fingers? (And I got this in before midnight!)
Uh… sort of. Last post, sadly, on ISSUES was Mar.31.
Yeah! All my database spelunking for nothing?
Sean, your database work was crucial in helping me to figure out what to do. But I was worried that publishing the list of commenter names and # of posts could encouraging the heaping of either accolades or scorn upon them, neither justified.
Hey, week’s up! Do we get awards? Like I give out on my blog, I guess, the “North End of a Horse Headed South” awards… Serendipitously, my computer crashed and I had a 12 hours/day plus prep hearing last week. Did you apply the hammer to any non-observant fingers?
Lurker’s Week is over. Looks like we had a few sneak over the line/get out the door but all in all, very good compliance.
And we had some new folks chime in, so let’s call my experiment a roaring success, shall we?
Or at least not quite a miserable failure?
No one signed up for Northfield Free Speech, which is as I suspected, knowing all the reasons why people don’t like that sort of environment. Also, from the looks of the other lists I am on, it’s just been a slow week for chat.
I posted a few things up at Northfield .org, just to keep in shape, and because I am given to public speaking and sharing urls as a way of life. 🙂
Bright- I tried to get into the Northfield Free Speech site, but I don’t think I was doing it right. This IT stuff sometimes leaves me in the dust.
Yep, Yahoo had some problems this week and they also did not set this up the way I had set it up. Gonna take it down until the next hammer falls, anyway.
