The recent rains have made parts of the Lower Arb impassible. I took the photo on the left of the footbridge near Lyman Lakes on Hwy 19 last Thursday afternoon. Weather Underground radar at 6:30 am this morning shows that we’re likely to get quite a bit more today.
When I was running through the Arb on Saturday, the path between the two big old cottonwoods was so far underwater that I had to turn around and go back the way I came.
It’s cool to have a river report. The Straight River coming through Faribault is really rippin’ – awesome to see. People who are interested in real-time reports on river flows can check the USGS ( US Geologic Survey) at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mn/nwis/current?type=flow
Look for the Cannon and Straight in the “Mississippi River Basin below St. Croix river). Using the drop down menus, you can learn that last flows like the Straight River had last week ( 4,000 cfs on October 3) far exceeds the mean of maximum daily flows in October in 41 years of record. ( Someone tell me if I’m reading this wrong…) I wonder how the regional stormwater pond that the city of Northfield built in the floodplain behind Wendy’s is doing…
