Northfield Rotarian James Grabau stopped by my corner office at GBM earlier this week to show me the poster (PDF) for the Northfield Rotary Youth Exchange fundraiser “To India and Back” on February 25 at the Northfield Middle School. Tickets go fast for this event. You can order them now online. Got questions? Email Clarice Grabau.
This event supports one of the crown jewels of the Northfield Rotary Club – the Youth Exchange Program. Northfield can be proud that we send out more than fifteen students annually for year abroad study programs. We also host several students in our homes and schools each year. This program enriches the lives of our world one child, one family, and one community at a time. The show itself will be spectacular featuring Indian musicians and dancers, a street fair for dinner, and much more. Please support this fantastic cause and treat yourself to a night to remember on Saturday, February 25!
How many lives can we even begin to count that have touched by the Youth Exchange program? Northfield has been involved in Youth Exchange since 1969 when we hosted our first student…since then 100’s of High School students have gone abroad from Nothfield and Northfield has hosted many. This year alone we have 16 outbounds in South Africa, Indonesia, Europe, South America and they are all touching communities where they live. In return we have five outstanding inbounds from Thailand, Denmark, Sweden, Colombia and India. Out India student has been checking to see that we stay true to India…her wonderful influence has been all over this. Don’t be one of those folks who find out about it after it is over and you say to yourself…Why didn’t I go? Get your ticket now, don’t miss out! It is only one night, no second chances! See you there! And bring your friends!
Tom and Vicki, it’s seems hard to believe that Northfield has 16 outbound students this year. Is that a record? Are there other Rotary clubs in the region with that many?
Glad you asked, Griff. Actually in 2010 we had 15 go out and in 2011 we had 16, now we have 16 planning to leave this summer to spots all over the world. We have quite a few going to Asia this year where as the last two years we had a lot go to Europe. They are an amazing group of young people, it is always my treat to get to know them and know their families. We may have a record year of Inbounds this coming August….6! We have never hosted 6 at a time before, this means 18 total host families. We still need a few more hosts, but we are getting close. The Northfield Rotary Club is a very generous club and fully supports and embraces this program. They are always eager to see more young people have this experience…a real hopeful future for World Peace and Understanding!
I know of no other club…in the world…that does what Northfield Rotary does. Still waiting to meet that other spot in the world that has more than 16 Outbounds!
But, we need to pack the house on February 25th to be able to support such a large Youth Exchange program. I really would hate to have someone find out after the 25th what a spectacular night they missed…only one show, one time to go to “India” for only $20 and support such an amazing program!
Most important right now is where you can get tickets…If you are downtown find Rick Estenson at First National bank. If you want to purchase through Paypal go to http://www.northfieldrotary.org The sooner you do that, the less worrying I need to do about ticket sales!
Tickets for the Event can also be purchased at the Northfield Public Schools Community Education & Recreation Office. Also, if purchasing on the http://www.northfieldrotary.org website, you do not need a paypal account. A simple credit card will do the trick! This is a perfect opportunity to act locally and make the world a better place! See you on the 25th…
Both of our Indian restaurants in town, Chapati and Kurry Kabab, are catering the food that will be for sale at the event. Yum, Yum…
Have you always wished to have your photo taken in front of the Taj? Well that night you can!
If you have a special Indian garment in your closet and wondering when you will get the chance to wear it…well, February 25th is the perfect date! If you don’t have anything, no worry, MN wear is very appropriate as well!
I just picked up my outfit from the Cleaners. Not sure I had washed it since my trip to Delhi! I’m looking forward to wearing it again if I can figure out how to put it on. Another option is the classic Nehru Jacket. The Fab Four use to wear them so it will be hip in Northfield as well. This is going to be a great night and the social event of the season…
Tom, I look forward to seeing you and all of our other friends with Indian clothes that night…a feast for the eyes. India is known for it’s bright colors and flowing fabrics, one of my favorite images of India is how even the woman herding her goats had a beautiful orange sari on. Sure beats the black I usually wear! Don’t miss this event, you will be sorry on February 26th when you start hearing about the details. See you there!
I have a beautiful silk and gold embroidered maroon dress with leggings to wear TO INDIA AND BACK. It is such a fun occasion to get dressed up without boots, hats, gloves, and parka. With no snow it will be fun to wear sandles to the event.
Hope eveyone in Northfield takes advantage of this round-trip ticket TO INDIA!
While reading Locally Grown this morning dial into KYMN at 8.40 and listen to Jean Wakely and me talk with Jeff about To India and Back….again this afternoon too at 4:45. Catch me on the streets, I will have tickets on me for sale! I will be talking to Suzy Rook at 10 at the Hideaway, not trying to hide though….come find me for tickets!
Oops, KYMN next Wednesday at 4.45, not today…you will need to wait! But, do buy your tickets now so we will know how much food to order. Thanks! Vicki
I appreciate the great article that Jerry Smith put together on the To India and Back today in the Northfield News as well as featuring the Rotary Youth Exchange. Thanks, Jerry! Perfect!
