The Minnesota Alliance With Youth celebrated their ten-year anniversary yesterday at an all-day Summit in Minneapolis.
Part of the day included the presentation of the 2007 Red Wagon Awards for youth civic engagement and youth leadership, and the Northfield Skateboard Coalition was one of 3 groups given this award.
The group was notified about the award back in September. See Northfield Union of Youth Executive Director Josh Hinnenkamp’s blog post when the Coalition was acknowledged at a City Council meeting.
A tip-of-the-blogger hat to Northfield City Councilor Jon Denison who emailed us this news. He wrote:
There was a reception and also a video was shown that showcased Northfield and the skateboard coalition’s involvement in pushing for a skate park. This video was a big topic of discussion there and will be formally presented at a future council meeting and has also been requested by other groups at the event for showcasing on their websites and such. It was a remarkable event and I was so very proud of them for receiving this award.
If anyone has photos of the group receiving the award, let me know.
Update 12/12: Here’s a photo of the group receiving their award from the Governor and Lt. Governor. It was emailed to me by Zach Pruitt, one of the coordinators for the Northfield Healthy Community Initiative (HCI).
