    Griff –

I noticed that although Tracy and I are listed as comment contributors, you are not included.

Is this to help make clear to the public that LG is not a democracy but is in fact a dictatorship?

    Thanks much,

    Ross

Hi, you can add my url to my name if you can. I use a lot of different url’s when I post…

I have a comment about comments left by commenters about this post about a comment about commenters that submit comments…

    Oh wait. I forgot now.

The order might not be obvious to the non-addicted reader. What about adding the number of posts after each name? Or would that look too much like a scorecard??

Okay, Felicity, I’ve flipped that switch. # of comments are now included next to each person’s name.

Holly, it’s automatically including your URL now.

Ross, I have no idea why my name isn’t listed. I’m at least as powerful a dictator as Tracy.

To be honest, I really do not want “metrics” run on the number of comments I post, and REALLY do not care to have them posted on the homepage.

I see this is as unnecessary, not helpful, and counterproductive.

If this continues, I will not be posting further.

John, I agree it’s unnecessary but can you say more about why you think it’s not helpful and counterproductive?

My initial reason for listing the names was just to give people a glimpse of the wide variety of participants we have here.

The list of names — in order of most frequent to least frequent — wasn’t made explicit, so Felicity’s comment prompted the change, as I couldn’t think of a reason to not display the numbers.

I just think that we need to consider quality, rather than quantity. It shouldn’t become a “game” of numbers, but rather continue to be an active discussion of what we feel to be important.

The numbers are irrelevant in my opinion. One can just look at the left column, and see who is posting.

I think that it may bring negative attention to those who may have the time and gumption to post prolifically.

I really didn’t care to know that Kiffi was the most responsive, and that she posted 48 this month so far. Who cares…

Also, it’s more than likely based on a database query, and probably slows the load time of the webpage down by a second or two as it is generated. 😎 Its just fluff.

If you want me to post 26 more times, I would be happy too… Gotta get those numbers up! Got to produce! Got to do my part! If I am not in the top 5, I must be irrelevant!

I don’t like my name on lists Griff… I cannot see the need. Why is this important?

Gosh, John, do you only do things that are “important?” If that’s the case, this blog is probably not for you. (Sorry, Griff. Don’t mean to denigrate the importance of this blog.) Do you ever do things just for the enjoyment? I personally think it is fun to see who is doing what. The fact that Kiffi has the highest # is no surprise. She has a lot to say. And, I’m on so many people’s lists right now, what difference does another one make?

I am trying to understand why posting the list of posters, and the amount of posts is important to Griff. What is the value add?

Yes, I do things for the enjoyment, but not everyone’s activities needs to be tracked and traced. If one wants to know how many times one has posted, they can go and look at the posts. Let them speak for themselves.

I’ll guess I’ll just accept the “Big Mouth with Too Much Time on Her Hands since the Gardening Season is Over AWARD”…
Actually, since it wasn’t “offered”, I don’t need to “accept”; I’ll just grab it, being much too pushy a person , anyway.

Since I’m currently wearing a T-shirt that has an SQL query on it my answer might be biased, but, I rather like the list. Does it have a useful purpose? Probably not… but it sure is fun.

Griff – look into installing the plugin that also lists the social security number of anyone who has posted – that would be fun too!

Um, no Nick… Don’t make me go “Sarbanes-Oxley” on you! (From a data security perspective…)

I am curious. What does the shirt say, or what is the SQL Query? Is it sufficiently geeky, to where I would want one too?

I must hurry and post more, as I see Anne is only 4 ahead…

I guess I can get over it, and succumb to the list. I would entertain that a separate page be created, that gives FULL METRICS, like month to date, and year to date. 😎

We could give out the “P3” award. Perpetually Prolific Poster, or something.

Maybe the most prolific poster would get a guest invite to participate on a Locally Grown Podcast, and give a different viewpoint to what is being discussed? The most prolific poster, could be the most informed person other than the Trimvate?

    Just an idea.

    > SELECT * FROM users WHERE clue > 0

If you’d like to bump your geek IQ, that’s an SQL (structured query language) query, which asks a database to select all of the information (*) from the list of users that have a clue. Unfortunately, there are no such users.

That shirt, along with plenty of other fine products, is available from thinkgeek.com.

    John, you asked …

    Why is this important?

I suspect that Griff is trying to give additional recognition to infrequent posters (so no numbers at first). Remember, he is sometimes focussed on how to build community and one way is to give participants extra strokes.

    My guess, at least.
