‘Soft opening’ for First National Bank of Northfield’s South location

First National Bank of Northfield opened their new South location next to Target for the first time this morning.

VP Becky Behrens (right in first slideshow photo below) gave me a tour and Board Chair Brett Reese (center) showed up to see if anyone would cash his checks. Teller Vince Fitzgerald (left) reluctantly complied.

By the time I left at 12:15, the bank had not yet been visited by any James-Younger types so I think they considered it a successful ‘soft opening.’  A Grand Opening will be held in a month or so.

  1. I’ve had a big annoyance with this building, and this seems as good a place as any to air it: this project has absolutely defiled the sidewalk on Honeylocust Drive.

It was torn up in early spring when the construction was fresh, though trucks were parking on it even before that. In mid-summer, I contacted the bank asking when they were going to repair it and was told late October. In late November, the sidewalk was finally repaired. But then after the first big snow came, they plowed their parking lot and had three-foot high drifts of snow on the edge of their driveway — effectively blocking the sidewalk again!

I have not been by there in a week or so, though; they may have made it walkable again. All the same, the whole situation has been very frustrating.
