Photo album: Governor’s Ball, Dec. 17, 2005

Two years ago today, we celebrated the final event of Northfield’s Sesquicentennial year — the Governor’s Ball at Carleton College’s Great Hall. The event honored four Northfielders who have risen to the office of governor: Al Quie – MN Governor (1979-1983), Karl F. Rolvaag – MN Governor (1963-1967), Edward Thye – MN Governor (1943-1947), and Adelbert Ames – Mississippi Governor (1868-1870).

I was reminded of the event when I saw the 4-by-6-foot lithograph on the wall of a conference room at First National Bank Northfield’s new South facility that I blogged about on Saturday. The litho was commissioned by the Sesquicentennial committee, created by local artist Kari Alberg, and auctioned at the event.

The Governor’s Ball was a Northfield Historical Society sesquicentennial event and was made possible by the support of Carlson Capital Management. Proceeds from the event went to the Northfield community, including both Northfield Citizens Online / Northfield.org and 5th Bridge.

See the album of 145+ photos that my wife Robbie and I took at the event… or this slideshow:

  1. I asked this back then, and I am asking again, why can’t there be a ball every few months or so, so that everyone can participate and not just the favored few?

I am sure a reason to celebrate can be found as well as people to move it forward, including me.

YuleStock (ReStock) on December 29 offers the community an opportunity to get together, enjoy some great music and dance — and help the Food Shelf. Leave your tuxedos at home. Bell-bottom blue jeans and tie-dyes are more appropriate for this event! Information is available on Northfield.org at:
